When Steubenville, Oh. firefighter Terry Thompson told his granddaughter Alexis about union free college, she was trying to figure out how to pay for the 4-year degree she needed to become a pre-school teacher. Two years later, Alexis completed all of her university prerequisites graduating from Eastern Gateway with an Associates Degree with no out-of-pocket costs. On August 26th, she began her Junior year of college at Ohio University using the money she saved through free college to pay for the remaining two years of her degree.
